The central government has a lot of work to do through this scrap policy. The policy will not only reduce pollution but also help boost the automotive industry. Nitin Gadkari informed the Lok Sabha about the scrap policy. He also explained how this policy will affect your life. After the implementation of this policy, 10-15 per cent benefit will be available till the end of life of old vehicles. This voluntary scrap policy was first mentioned by the central government in the budget.

There are four main components to a scrap policy. In addition to the concessions in the policy, there is also a provision to recover green tax from old vehicles. All older vehicles will have to be tested for fitness and pollution after a certain time. For this, work is being done in an automated fitness center. Roads and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said the government was working on this.

  • Fitness test of any vehicle will be mandatory after completion of registration period.
  • It will be compulsory to give fitness test to personal vehicles after 20 years and to commercial vehicles after 15 years.
  • If a vehicle fails the fitness test, you will have to pay a fine for using it. This vehicle is credited at the end of life if the fitness test fails.
  • There is a provision to encourage old vehicle owners to scrap their cars. The government has given this incentive so that at least old vehicles can be registered.
  • Re-registration fee for old vehicles will also be increased.
  • Automated fitness centers will be started across the country. This will help in testing and certification of old vehicles. 25% discount for scrapping old vehicles To promote scraping of vehicles, the government will provide 4 to 6 per cent scrap value to vehicle owners.
  • Apart from this, they will also be given 25 percent discount in road tax.

Older vehicles cause 10-12 percent more pollution than newer vehicles

It is estimated that older vehicles emit 10-12 percent more pollution than newer vehicles. The government had earlier said that a green tax would be levied on old vehicles that cause pollution. Funds raised from the green tax will be spent on environmental and pollution reduction work. Hybrid models, electric vehicles, CNG, ethanol and LPG vehicles will be exempted.

The auto industry will be worth up to Rs 10 lakh crore

This is being described as a major step towards boosting the automotive sector in the country. The situation in the region is already dire, said Nitin Gadkari. If this policy is implemented, the country’s automotive industry will get a boost of up to 30 per cent. At present, the industry is worth Rs 4.5 lakh crore, which will go up to Rs 10 lakh crore in the next few years.
