IAS officer Rajiv Bansal took up his post as secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday. Prior to this appointment, Bansal served as Chairman and CEO of Air India.

Bansal, a 1988 batch IAS officer in the Nagaland cadre, succeeded Pardeep Singh Kharola, who retired Thursday, as the secretary of civil aviation.

Previously, Bansal served as Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas, Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Secretary of the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.

“He also held several key positions in the Nagaland government,” the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement.
