Qualcomm May Launch Nintendo Switch-Like Android Gaming Console

The American multinational Qualcomm, which previously worked on a brand of gaming smartphones, is now reportedly developing its own handheld console that will be powered specifically by the upcoming Android 12.

According to a report from Android Police, this handheld game console will look a lot like the Nintendo Switch, but it will run on Android and host a Snapdragon chipset. The source claimed she saw non-final images from the device but decided not to share them.

In short, Qualcomm’s handheld game console will look like a thicker smartphone, with detachable controllers on the left and right sides.

The source familiar with Qualcomm’s plans further said that the San Diego chip company plans to use a 6,000mAh battery that will support its Quick Charge technology. Although the exact dimensions are not yet available, if the aforementioned information is relevant, it could be a modified smartphone with a larger screen.

Fortunately, it will offer the same options as a high-end handset, such as a dedicated display output and an SD card reader for future storage expansion. This device will also run Android 12 with a custom launcher, and yes, users will be able to download apps and services that are compatible with Google Play.

With Qualcomm aiming to launch the handheld gaming console as early as Q1 2022, expect a Snapdragon 888 successor to be in the guts. It is also believed that this silicon can run at higher clock speeds, as the thickness of this device will allow Qualcomm to use a more robust cooler.

Additionally, it will feature an older Snapdragon X55 5G modem, allowing users to connect wirelessly with other gamers. However, it is not clear whether Qualcomm intends to offer Wi-Fi variants only to the masses.

The target price will be $ 300, with customers to be offered direct sales. At the same time, Qualcomm wants US carriers to showcase the future product on their store shelves to encourage more sales. In a nutshell, we should expect a slightly larger gaming smartphone from Qualcomm with all the basic additions and components.
