What is Bhagwat Gita
The Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between the Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. At the beginning of Dharma Yuddha (just war) between Pandavas and Kauravas, Arjuna is full of moral dilemmas and despair over the violence and death that war will cause in fighting its own relatives. He wonders whether he should give up Krishnas and seek him a lawyer whose answers and discourse make up the Bhagavad Gita. Krishna advises Arjuna to “do his kshatriya (warrior) duty to uphold the Dharma” through “selfless action”. The Krishna Arjuna dialogues cover a wide range of spiritual topics, touching on ethical dilemmas and philosophical questions that go well beyond the war of Arjuna faces.
